Reflow provides a comprehensive interface designed to facilitate music composition and editing. The interface is structured into several key components:
The Score View
The Score View is the central workspace where users can compose and edit their musical scores. It provides a canvas for writing music notation, arranging measures, and viewing the musical composition in detail. Key features of the Score View include:
- Navigation and Zoom: Users can freely move around and zoom in on the score. On iPhone/iPad, use finger gestures to navigate and zoom. On Mac, use the mouse to move around and Cmd+Scroll wheel to zoom in and out.
- Tab Mode: Double-click (Mac) or double-tap (iPhone/iPad) on the score to enter Tab Mode, which initiates note input. This mode allows for efficient entry of musical notes and notation.
- View Modes: Toggle between Page mode and Horizontal mode using the toolbar. Page mode presents the score in a traditional paginated format, while Horizontal mode displays the score in a continuous horizontal layout, facilitating different viewing preferences and editing styles.
- Playback Controls: Start or stop the playback of your composition using the Play button. On iPhone/iPad, the Play button is located in the bottom left corner of the screen. On Mac, it is available in the toolbar. Playback allows you to hear your composition in real-time, aiding in the review and refinement process.
These features make the Score View a versatile and powerful component for composing, editing, and reviewing musical scores in Reflow.
The Arranger
The Arranger in Reflow serves two primary purposes:
- Structural Overview: Positioned at the bottom of the screen, the Arranger provides a visual map of the entire composition. It displays all tracks and measures in a concise format, enabling users to navigate seamlessly through different sections of their musical piece. This overview is invaluable for managing the structure and flow of the composition.
- Mixer Functionality: In addition to its role as a structural overview, the Arranger doubles as a mixer, offering essential tools for audio control akin to traditional digital audio workstations (DAWs). Users can:
- Adjust Track Volume: Control the volume level of each individual track to achieve the desired balance within the composition.
- Panorama Adjustment: Modify the panoramic position of tracks, allowing for spatial placement within the stereo field.
- Solo and Mute Tracks: Isolate specific tracks for focused editing or playback using the solo function, or temporarily mute tracks to hear the rest of the composition without them.
By integrating mixer controls into the Arranger, Reflow enhances the versatility of its interface, catering to both compositional structuring and detailed audio manipulation needs.
The Inspector
The Inspector panel in Reflow provides detailed information and options related to the selected elements within the score. You can toggle between different panels using the tab bar located at the top. The Inspector adapts its layout based on the device: on iPad/Mac, it is positioned on the right side of the screen, and on iPhone, it is located at the bottom. The Inspector is composed of six panels:
